7 Easy Foods for Inflammation Relief

Along with gluten free foods, I started researching anti-inflammatory foods about 4 years ago. The difference has been life-changing. Now, I can eat a cheat meal without fearing an allergic reaction in my stomach or joints. Not so ironically, each of the items listed also promote fat loss with their cleansing properties. This inspired me so much that I made anti-inflammatory foods a focal point in my Mind & Body Reset Program, for clients to feel the harvest of healing and results that comes with inviting more of these nutrients into their diets (extra info at the bottom :).

One of the easiest way for me to keep these foods around was to find a nearby farmer's market and make that my go-to for buying fruits and veggies. Now, I only buy produce at the grocery store when I'm in a time pinch. It saves me a bundle of money too, as I could easily spend upwards of $70/week on produce alone from Publix. But for about $20, I'm getting even more, locally grown, fresh produce that hasn't been falsely ripened with chemicals.  I can also buy what's really in season, making it more sustainable and adding creative variety to our meals.

These are seven foods that always have a spot in my kitchen:

Celery

A carrier for antioxidants, vitamins B6, K and C, folate, and potassium. Celery also has high water content making it a top contender for anti-inflammation and hydration. Hurray for multifunction! All these lovely nutrients improve liver & brain function, and promote healthy eyes & skin. I get that celery isn't the go-to snack for flavor but I'd invite you to try it with almond butter or salsa, you might change your mind!

Blueberries

These powerful little guys are packed with flavor and nutritious value, especially antioxidants and fiber. They are great for the heart & brain, the immune & digestive system. As if that weren't enough, they're low on the glycemic index which makes them excellent snacks or smoothie additives for diabetics & those trying to cut out sugar. In short, adding these berries to your daily routine will provide digestive support, immune support, aid in fat loss, and even cancer-fighting properties.

Greens

Yup, I mean the leafy, rabbit-kind. If you're looking for one, easy to find, low-calorie, anti-aging superfood with a pack-a-punch kind of effect- You gotta go green. Following a parade of nutrients, greens also provide fat-burning power, internal UV protection, promotion of cellular health, turnover & detoxification, and healthy insulin function. They are an absolutely kickass healing agent for our bodies from the inside out!

Turmeric & Ginger Roots/Powders

Turmeric holds antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anticancer properties. Needless to exploit, it's an all-in-one to keep at the front of the medicine/herb cabinet. Though the flavor can take some getting used to, it pairs well in creamy dishes like curry and can be hidden pretty deliciously in smoothies. Ginger delicately aids in digestion, boosts the immune system, cleanses the lymphatic system, and can even help reverse allergic reactions. Among other benefits, this bitter root balances hormones and helps to clear skin. Either roots can also be purchased in powder form, which may be easier to use in common dishes or brew into your favorite teas. (Just add a little extra honey. :)

Garlic

More recently, Garlic became quite sexy in the foodie & wellness worlds of editorial flavor profiles and powerful home remedies. While that is great news for knowledge, it also resulted in a huge boost of foreign trade where imposter quality can deceivingly cause more harm than good. However, when sustainably purchased from true sources, Garlic is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-fatigue, fights against toxic damage, balances blood sugar, and lowers blood pressure.

Omega-3

Wonderful for brain function and nerve health, this essential fatty acid is available in Walnuts, cold-water fish like Salmon & Trout, and Kidney & Navy Beans. Sometimes it's easier to consume desired amounts via supplements. If that's the case for you, check out the link below for Viva Natural's Omega-3 Fish Oil.

Viva Naturals is dedicated to quality & fairly priced compared to many supplements that contain fillers:
